Will the Coronavirus crisis stick to Teflon Don?

In an election year, President Donald Trump has delivered on his 2016 promise of Making America Great Again. The U.S. has the GREATEST rate of COVID19 infection on the planet. With the numbers of Americans contracting the virus, growing rather than flattening. Like some demented Mr Miyagi, Donald’s replaced ‘Wax On, Wax Off’, with ‘Lie On, Lie Off’. Furiously deflecting COVID19 body blows, that might damage his monstrous ego in the polls.

Scapegoat Hunting? Look over there The World Health Organisation, ‘called it wrong.’ W.H.O. actually called it on the 30th of January, declaring COVID19 a public health emergency. A whole month later Teflon Don tweeted, ‘The Coronavirus is very much under control in the USA’. Eventually the penny dropped and Trump declared a national emergency, 43 days after W.H.O. called it. Maybe Donald’s hearing is going too?

Testing Times! Testing has been described as the window onto Coronavirus and its spread. Without testing, no-one can understand the pandemic. President Don stated, ‘Anybody that needs a test, gets a test. They have the tests. And the tests are beautiful.’ The U.S. actually sits a dismal 39th globally, in testing per one million of the population. Many states have a testing kit shortage. Confirmed by Vice President Pence, ‘we don’t have enough tests today to meet what we anticipate will be the demand going forward.’ Oops!

All The President’s Porky-Pies? ‘All U.S. citizens arriving from Europe would be subject to medical screening, COVID-19 testing, and quarantine. We have a tremendous testing setup where people coming in have to be tested.’ As previously pointed out testing in the States is severely limited. Unfortunately for other Americans, this is wishful thinking, that all returning Americans are being tested, or being forced into quarantine.

Trump: COVID19 Expert? Equally fanciful is Donald’s uninformed views on what effect warmer weather has on Coronavirus, ‘when we get into April, in the warmer weather—that has a very negative effect on this type of a virus.’ Actual experts have a different view, saying it’s too early to tell if the virus’s spread will be dampened by warmer conditions. The much Trump-maligned, World Health Organization points out that Coronavirus can be transmitted in ALL AREAS, including areas with hot and humid weather. WHO to believe a global health body or Teflon Don?

It’s Obama’s FAULT! The orange guy in The White House has of course blamed most things on his predecessor. Claiming his administration inherited a ‘broken, bad and obsolete’ test for the Coronavirus. Hmmm… Fact 1: DEC 31 2019. China reports a completely new viral disease called COVID19. Fact 2: FEB 5 2020. The US begin sending out test kits. Conclusion: Donald’s guys couldn’t have inherited a dodgy test kit from Barack’s guys because the virus didn’t exist when Barack left office on January 20th 2017! DOH!

YOU CANNOT BE SERIOUS! The problem with being in the public eye, people note what you say and when you say it. To say Teflon Don didn’t take the looming pandemic with the gravity it deserved, is an understatement. Initially comparing Coronavirus to the common cold, Donald’s current tune sounds more like a soothsayer rather than the 45th President of the United States. ‘I’ve always known this is real. I felt it was a pandemic long before it was called a pandemic.’ Tell that to the Americans about to lose their lives Mr President.

There’s nothing like a good pandemic to flush out, exactly what kind of people we really are. In doing so of course, we also discover the calibre of human being that we have all around us. Aussies & Kiwis flattening the COVID curve?

If you live in Australia and New Zealand, it’s time to thank your COVID19 lucky stars. While the Antipodes is flattening the curve, in other parts of the world, the pandemic is not fading away but actually accelerating.
