Always look on the bright side of COVID19?

Yes, we’ve all had to   get used to being frightened to death by switching on the six o’clock news for the latest Coronavirus death toll. But like Eric Idle jauntily warbling on the cross, let’s take five minutes to look on the bright side of COVID19. E ver since a new   and novel strain of Coronavirus emerged from the wet markets of Wuhan, our world has been put on hold. We and all those close to us, now live under the fear of death. COVID19 will go down in history, alongside those other decimating deceases, Spanish Flu and the Black Death. But how can we take any positives   from COVID19 when schools are being closed, people are being laid off, hoarding is rife, staying home is the norm and hospitals are overwhelmed with the sick and the dying? The uncomfortable truth is, a global pandemic was always going to happen. The World Health Organisation has been warning governments for years but they simply chose not to listen. Although any death is a death too many , in the c...

Aussies & Kiwis flattening the COVID curve?

If you live in Australia and New Zealand, it’s time to thank your COVID19 lucky stars. While the Antipodes is flattening the curve, in other parts of the world, the pandemic is not fading away but actually accelerating. This extremely bad news was delivered by  the World Health Organization (WHO), reporting that new Coronavirus cases were reaching new heights. Millions more infected.   In the first three months of the pandemic, one million cases of COVID19 were recorded. It took just eight days to reach the next million cases! With a worldwide total exceeding a staggering nine million, the death rate in some countries doesn’t make for comfortable reading. Donald Trump’s America tops the charts with a lamentable figure that’s heading towards 130,000 deaths. Brazil leads the way in South America, with a thousand Brazilians losing their lives every day. Brazil going nuts! Governments seem to be choosing between lives and livelihoods. Brazil’s President declared social dista...

Brazil: Christ! The COVID19er!

The Coronavirus pandemic is always on the lookout for the most vulnerable, in the worst conditions. When these two circumstances align, it doesn’t hesitate to send the grim reaper to harvest innocent souls. Sending red lines on graphs shooting upward, at acute angles on news programmes around the world. Such a situation occurred recently in Brazil. A meat packing plant, full of indigenous workers with little access to clean water and health services. BOOM! COVID19’s ship had truly come in! South America’s U.S.A.? Brazil’s death toll is flying faster than the great Jairzinho going down the wing. Surpassing 21,000, its consistently clocking up deaths of over a thousand on a daily basis. Indigenous leaders aren’t sure of how many of this total, are from their community, as indigenous names aren’t always used when being admitted to hospital. Brazil zoomed past Russia, in total infections (330,890) behind the Big Daddy of the COVID19 pandemic, the United States. We’ll Meat Again!...

Will the Coronavirus crisis stick to Teflon Don?

In an election year, President Donald Trump has delivered on his 2016 promise of Making America Great Again. The U.S. has the GREATEST rate of COVID19 infection on the planet. With the numbers of Americans contracting the virus, growing rather than flattening. Like some demented Mr  Miyagi , Donald’s replaced ‘Wax On, Wax Off’, with ‘Lie On, Lie Off’. Furiously deflecting COVID19 body blows, that might damage his monstrous ego in the polls. Scapegoat Hunting?   Look over there The World Health Organisation, ‘called it wrong.’ W.H.O. actually called it on the 30th of January, declaring COVID19 a public health emergency. A whole month later Teflon Don tweeted, ‘The Coronavirus is very much under control in the USA’. Eventually the penny dropped and Trump declared a national emergency, 43 days after W.H.O. called it. Maybe Donald’s hearing is going too? Testing Times!   Testing has been described as the window onto Coronavirus and its spread. Without testing, no-one...
